Julita Powers Russell, 91, of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2019, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Alice and James Powers on July 14, 1928, in Yonkers and graduated from Blessed Sacrament Academy.
Julita was the last surviving member of her 8 sisters and 4 brothers. She married Raymond F. Russell in 1950, and they lived together in Yonkers for their entire lives. Julita and Ray had five children: Cheryl Ehle of Farmington, CT; Raymond Russell and his wife Cathy of Yonkers, NY; Julita (Lee) Boyle and her husband Paul of Newtown, CT; Jordon Russell and his wife Betsey of Madison, CT; Kerry Hutson and her husband Dan of Herndon, VA. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Julita was predeceased by her loving husband, Ray, in 1991.
Julita was a model for Lord and Taylor in NYC. She continued to have an appreciation of fashion and style. Julita also worked as an executive secretary for The Archdiocese of New York located at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and was the office manger for Ray Russell and Son Plumbing and Heating. She was a woman of great faith and attended mass daily at Saint Barnabas Church until she was no longer able. Julita was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
The calling hours are on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5-9 p.m. at McGrath’s Funeral Home in Bronxville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Barnabas Catholic Church, Bronx, New York at 10:45 a.m. The burial will take place immediately following at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
