McQuillan, Margaret A May 31, 1932 - February 7, 2022

McQUILLAN – – Margaret A., beloved wife of the late Thomas A. (Tom), died peacefully at home on February 7, 2022. Peggy was born on May 31,1932 to Jeremiah and Mary Henry O’Neill in NYC. She is pre-deceased by her son, Dcn. Thomas H. McQuillan, whom she loved deeply and missed immensely. Peggy is survived by her daughters Beth (Roy Gerke) and Joanne (Ross Blankenship), her grandchildren Elizabeth (Craig Rowlings) and Thomas Gerke and William Blankenship and her dear daughter-in-law Ann McCormick McQuillan. Peggy attended St. Paul School and Cathedral High School in NY, NY. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1953 as a registered nurse. It was at the infamous St. Patrick’s Day dance in March of 1952 that she met the love of her life, Tom McQuillan. Peggy and Tom were married in August, 1953 at The Lady Chapel of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Within a few short years, they settled with their family in Crestwood, NY. As her children grew older, Peggy pursued her profession in health care. She returned to work full-time becoming the Director of Health Services at Fordham University, a position she held until her retirement in 1995. While working at Fordham, she earned two B.A. degrees, her M.A. in Philosophy and professional qualification as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner. Peggy loved Fordham and truly appreciated the Jesuits. In a career milestone, Peggy was awarded the Archbishop Hughes Medal honoring her for her leadership in providing and expanding healthcare services for students and the entire Fordham community. Peggy and Tom were married for over 67 years, a true love story. Together they raised their family, enjoyed many close friends in Crestwood, had fulfilling careers and were devoted parishioners of The Church of the Annunciation. Peggy will be remembered for her love for her family, as a dear friend and for her warm, generous spirit.A private family funeral was held.
