Farrelly, Rita K October 8, 1936 - February 6, 2022

Rita K. Farrelly passed away on February 6, 2022 shortly after a necessary surgery. She had been a proud Bronxville resident for 40 years. Rita was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up there with her loving family.
Rita attended St. Brendan’s Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Barnabas High School. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and earned her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Iona College. She studied law at St. John’s University.
Rita’s entire professional business career was spent at Mutual of New York (MONY), then one of the nation’s major insurance firms. Rising from “pool typist” to Senior Vice President during her long and successful career, Rita certainly left her mark in the insurance industry.
In retirement, Rita served as a successful business consultant, an active board member of her cooperative residence, a mystery writer (“Not in Bronxville,” 1998), frequent newspaper contributor and a loving family member to her sisters and brother, nieces/nephews, friends and former business colleagues. Rita loved nothing more than sharing her vivid memories, family trivia, personal and political leanings and her knowledge of baseball, particularly the Yankees and Giants.
Rita was the beloved first child and namesake of the late Rita T. and James J. Farrelly Sr., the loving sister of Roberta Fugazzi (East Lansing, Michigan), the late Dr. Gail E. Farrelly, and James J. Farrelly Jr.(Manchester, New Jersey). She will be sorely missed by her sister and brother and by her nephews, nieces and their families – James Fugazzi, M.D. Okemos, Michigan, Alexander Fugazzi, Esq. (Henderson, Nevada), Jennifer Farrelly (Brooklyn, New York), Debra Wieben (Whitehouse Station, New Jersey), Laura Trumble (Manchester, Pennsylvania) and Kelly Farrelly (Highlands Ranch, Colorado). Rita’s family will never forget her love, her kindness and her generosity.
The family will receive friends from 9am-10am on Friday, February 11 at McGrath & Sons Funeral home, Bronxville, New York. A Mass of Resurrection  will be celebrated at 10:45am on Friday, February 11at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville.  Internment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may choose to make a memorial donation in Rita’s name to either the St. Barnabas High School Giving Societies, 425 East 240th Street, Bronx, New York 10470 or to The Alumnae Giving Fund, College of Mt. St. Vincent, 6391 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York 10471.

Rita was my closest life long friend. She was also my oldest sister who took care of me as a child and continued to do so well into my adult years. I will remember her with love forever!
