James “Jim” Hair
November 9th, 1959 – January 19th, 2024
James “Jim” Hair, aged 64, passed away on January 19th, 2024, in Brooklyn, NY, surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife, Aileen (née Wotherspoon), sister Barbara Hair, his stepchildren Nicholas and Emma Jackson (née Harris), Murdoch & Scott Harris, and his grandson, George Jackson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fran, his father, Robert, and his brother, Bobby.
Born on November 9th, 1959, Jim resided in Bronxville, NY, and graduated from Iona Preparatory School. He attended Hunter College and went to culinary school.
Jim joined Local 600 in 1992 and worked on hundreds of commercials and music videos, as well as feature films, television shows, multi-camera live performances, and fashion shows. Jim’s knowledge of film cameras, emulsion, digital cameras, and optics was widely respected throughout the industry.
Jim served Local 600 with admiration. For over ten years, he trained upcoming members of Local 600 for the union test and proctored their exams. As those members joined the union, Jim continued to mentor many with his ever-generous spirit and seemingly infinite technical knowledge.
Jim was a true “renaissance man.” He enjoyed cooking, reading, history, gardening, woodworking, classic films, and classical music. A tradition he cherished involved annual visits to Tanglewood with Aileen and regular attendance at concerts at the NY Philharmonic and Carnegie Hall. He loved working on projects around the house and spending time with friends and family. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his beloved, ever-loyal dog, Colm.
He was an incredibly kind & generous man with a delightful sense of humor. He was deeply loved and will be lovingly remembered by friends, family, & all who knew him.
