Marcia Hope Gordon was born on October 15, 1948, in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica, and passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in New York City, New York. She was always a brilliant scholar while attending Mt. Alvernia High School, followed by becoming an educator at St. Joseph’s Catholic Teachers College. She taught secondary Biology and Mathematics for several years before extending her accounting skills as Manager at the Jamaica Telephone Company District Office, until her migration in 1989 to the United States.
On being here, Marcia, being of such resilience, approached life optimistically and stayed true to her passion for being an educator and counselor. This manifested in her profound child care skills, guidance, counseling, ability to enrich lives, and building lifelong friendships and extended families. Marcia had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Marcia is survived by her daughter, Moniefa Meiklejohn; Sisters, Daisy Walcott, Joanne Bernard, and Audrey Carrot; Nieces, Marcia James, Jeneta Barrett, Georgia Fulton, Shante Harris, Tina Thomas, and Carladee Harris; Nephews, Carlton Harris, Robert DeSousa, and Isaiah Carrot; and many cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Honorary children: Alison Gourd, Sam Underhill, Meg Gourd, Mollie Underhill, Michael McManus II, Nina McManus.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Marcia touched are invited to the McGraths & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY 10708, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Funeral Service will be held at Allen Memorial Church of God in Christ, 132 Crary Avenue, Mt. Vernon, NY 10550, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. This will be followed by the burial at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595.
To reminisce, grieve, support each other, and to chat as Marcia would have loved, a repast will be held at the church hall until 1 p.m. at Allen Memorial Church of God in Christ, 132 Crary Avenue, Mt. Vernon, NY 10550.

Miss Marcia always had a smile on her face, soft spoken n helpful. She woman of grace, strong work ethics, driven and honest. I will miss her laughter and sweet words.
