Collins, James “Seamus” – Fred H. McGrath & Son, Inc.

Seamus Collins passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on June 16th 2026, at the age of 83.

Seamus was born on April 5th, 1943 to the late Matthew and Alice Collins and was raised in Ballybunion, County Kerry, Ireland.

Seamus was married to his loving wife, Mary, of 61 years. Devoted Father of Jimmy, Gerard and Kevin (deceased). Proud father-in-law of Tracy Collins. Cherished grandfather of Anna Rose and Gaelen, Beloved brother of Michael (deceased), T.J. , Lal and Pat.

Seamus embarked on his journey to New York, as a teenager, and met Mary Kenny soon after and were married. They were married at Our Lady of Angels Church, in the Bronx, in 1965.

Seamus was a superintendent on Perry Ave, in the Norwood section of the Bronx, for more than 15 years before moving his family to Bronxville in 1990. Seamus also worked as an Operating Engineer for approximately 35 years with most of his career in Macy’s on 34th street, Herald Square, until his retirement.

Seamus was a dedicated supporter of the Irish community and the GAA in New York. His presence touched many lives and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20th at 9:45 AM (Eastern) at the Church of Saint Joseph, 15 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY 10708.

With great sadness I learned of the passing of my good friend Seamus Collins, he was without doubt one of life’s great characters and a wealth of knowledge on all GAA matters.Our sincere condolences to his wife Mary and the family. We are so deeply sorry to hear of Seamus’s passing. He was a great GAA man and an even greater character. He stopped by regularly when we were remodeling our house, and he kept us on our toes! Sincere condolences to his wife and family; may your memories comfort you, and may he rest in peace.

Our most sincere condolences to the Collins family. Seamus Collins was the kindest of men who always had a welcoming home for friends and visitors. Some of my fondest memories are the times spent in the Perry Ave. Apartment with Gerry and Jimmy, and Seamus checking in on us with a witty sarcastic comment and Mary always offering a cup of tea. Rest in peace Mr. Collins.

We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Seamus. We became friends in 1985 when I first went to New York and played football with the Kerry Junior team. Our friendship grew over the years and we were so happy to have him as God-father to our first child in 1989 and this cemented a live time of friendship. Seamus was a gentleman to the tips of his fingers and we send our condolences to Mary, his wife, and his 2 sons Jimmy and Gerard whom he was immensely proud of. I have so many memories of Seamus and remain so grateful for all the advice and help he gave to me down the years. Rest in Peace my friend.

I was very saddened to hear of Seamus” passing. We shared many emails (conversations and jokes). over the years and I always enjoyed hearing from him. He was a warm, kind and thoughtful man. May his memory be a blessing.

I just learned of Seamus’ passing while on vacation in New York. We lived here a number of years ago and always enjoyed meeting Seamus and Mary. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of GAA football and could recount in detail scores and incidents in games decades past. A true Gael! May God be good to him. Our sincere condolences to Mary and to his sons Gerry and Jimmy.
