Kelly, Alfred F. May 24, 1930 - October 17, 2023

Alfred F Kelly, Sr.

Alfred F Kelly from the Crestwood section of Yonkers died peacefully at home on the evening of October 17 at the age of 93.

Smart, wise, and practical, Al maintained a distinct point of view and spoke truth to power and powerless alike. Whether speaking or writing, he was a master of communication capable of distilling complicated topics or articulating a point of view or plan of action. Al’s paramount hallmark was his generosity. He gave mightily and often whether helping with a project, fixing a problem, righting a wrong, or sharing whatever he had. Al was a man of deep faith who loved the Catholic Church and his parish. Until recently, Al was a daily communicant who continued to practice his faith with a daily reading of his prayers and his trademark quiet deeds.

Al was predeceased by the love of his life, Sheila, to whom he had been married for almost 66 years when she died in June of 2022. Al was a graduate of both Fordham Prep and Fordham University, served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army stationed in country during the Korean War and spent 40 years at Canada Life Insurance Company of NY, retiring as CEO and President.

He was the proud father of seven children: Alfred (Peggy) F Kelly Jr. of Rye, NY; William (Liz) J Kelly of Newton, MA; Thomas (Karen) F Kelly of Ellicott City, MD; Anne (Rob) K Methven of Midlothian, VA; Marie (Kew) J Kelly-Yuoh of New Rochelle, NY; John (Pamela) PL Kelly of the Bronx, NY and Sheila E Kelly who died in 1980. He was grandfather of 24: Alfred III, Kaitlin, Sam, Maggie, Zach, Dylan, Emmett, Jack, Max, Lucy, Sierra, Grace, Abbey, Oliver, Quinn, Sheila, Liam, Maura, Felix, Lizzie, Will, Ozzie, Ophelia and Maybellene, and great grandfather of three: Cooper, Delaney and Tommy.

Al was born on May 24, 1930, in New York City and was the son of Anna Lucy Lefevre and Raymond J Kelly. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Kelly and sister, Nancy Armstrong. He is survived by his sister, Mary Fogelsong of Naperville, IL. A wake will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville, on Friday, October 27 from 4 to 7:30 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be said Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 am at Annunciation Church in Crestwood.
