Maria del Carmen was an amazing woman, full of energy and lust for life.

    Dearest Jantje, Liana & Family,
It is hard to imagine our lives without our Tia Muñeca in it. In the words of my brother/your cousin Maka, she has been in our lives since the beginning. My Mom is very much missing the very close relationship they had and their daily phone calls to each other when they could not physically be together.
You are now in peace with our Tio Jan/your beloved husband and all of our beloved family and friends who have already passed on. For now we say “Farewell” until God willing, we will all be reunited at the end of our life’s journey.
Con todo amor de tu Familia,
    Gulfin/Livas 😘😢🙏🏻

Vuela alto!!

Our sincere condolences, on behalf of Marije and myself, to Jan and Liana and their family, to Mari Carmen’s sister Conchita and her family, and to other relatives.
This month sixty years ago, Mari Carmen came to the Netherlands for the first time with Jan, my dear brother. She immediately became a wonderful new member of the Wortel family. She gave much love, warmth and joy to our parents, which meant a lot to them.
To me she has been a very special sister-in-law and my warm and vivid memories of her, acquired during her regular visits with Jan to the Netherlands and during my visits to them in several countries, will remain with me forever.

From Holland my sincere condolences to Jan and Liana and my nieces and nephews, to Mari Carmen’s sister Conchita and her family.
When “tante” Carmen came to Utrecht to visit us during my childhood, it meant adventure! Her temperament, her humor, the way she spoke and interacted with us: it was so new! I had a Mexican Aunt and was so proud!
Later she visited me and my wife in Berlin (2010) when our son was born, and she brought so many colourful presents – I had to asked for a bag in the restaurant, to carry it home – it was a wonderful afternoon and I remember it very well.
All around my house are many little Mexican objects that she brought as presents over the years. It makes me sad that she has past away, but in my memory she is very much alive.

May she rest in peace, together with my dear uncle Jan!

All the best to my family overseas!
