Isaias Alvarado Davila, of the Bronx, NY passed away on May 17, 2025. He was a beloved husband of 65 years to Lucy Esparra Carattini. A devoted and proud father to Ralph Alvarado and Millie Leidenfrost. A loving father-in-law to Steve Leidenfrost. A dear brother to seven brothers and sisters, and a proud uncle to seven nieces and nephews. Isaias was very proud of his family and had a generous and unending love for all of them. He also had a tremendous gratitude for his longtime caregiver Christina Encarnacion.
Isaias was drafted and served in the Korean war at the age of 20, which he was very proud of. He absolutely loved the United States of America and would often say that if he were drafted again, he would definitely serve his country. After he was honorably discharged, Isaias lived with his favorite brother, Raphael in New Jersey, but he would soon marry his sweetheart Lucy and move to the Bronx, NY.
For many years, Isaias had steady odd jobs until he was able to save enough money to buy a small supermarket. He was extremely proud to be a businessman and worked long hours for years until he retired. He loved operating his own business which provided a comfortable living for him and his family. Isaias was also an extremely devoted Yankee fan. He would often take his children to see a game at Yankee stadium. But if he could not go to Yankee stadium than he was definitely watching the game with his family on TV. In the last few years of his life, Isaias would spend hours watching Yankee games with his son-in-law, Steve. He greatly enjoyed his time with Steve and always looked forward to watching the games with him. Isaias also loved traveling with his wife. They went to Italy several times, the Caribbean and different states in America.
One of the things that Isaias loved the most was his wife’s (Lucy) great faith in God. Her devotion inspired and uplifted him. He often would turn to prayer in difficult moments because of his admiration of her faith. He was indeed proud to be her husband and joked about it many times. Lucy was a special education teacher, and Isaias would take her to school in the morning and pick her up at the end of the day. He used to love to refer to her as “La Teacher.” And of course, Lucy would just roll her eyes and laugh. Isaias was the kind of husband that loved to go out and dine with his wife. He had many favorite restaurants and everyone knew him and loved talking with him whenever he came in, which was often. He was really the kind of guy that just enjoyed talking to everyone and getting to know them. Making friends quickly and easily seem so easy and natural for him.
Isaias will be remembered for his great love of family, his strong work ethic, his generosity, and his friendly demeanor. Family was everything to him! His brothers and sisters meant the world to him, as did his nieces and nephews. But he had the greatest love for his wife, their children and his son-in-law.
Isaias will be greatly missed! May his beautiful soul rest in the love and peace of God as he reunites with his beloved Lucy (La Teacher).
