Rosanne Van Hoek, 92, a lifelong resident of New York City died on January 2, 2024.
Rose was born on November 14, 1931, in Manhattan. She was the oldest daughter of Daniel and Katherine (née Duke) Collins.
After graduating from high school, Rose traveled solo through post-war Europe and it was there she learned to appreciate the finer things in life, especially high fashion. Her collection of cashmere sweaters, shoes and handbags from Paris was truly extraordinary.
Upon her return to the United States, Rose met Richard Van Hoek at a fraternity party at City College. They married in 1957 and went on to raise their three children in Jackson Heights, Queens.
Rose was a brilliant and well-read woman, who spent her early career as a librarian, then a salesperson at Bloomingdales, and later as a sales assistant at Lehman Brothers until her retirement in the early 1990s. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling to visit her good friends the Helmkes in St. Maarten and Saratoga and of course shopping at Bloomingdales.
Rose was predeceased by her parents, her former husband Richard, her daughter Christine, her baby granddaughter Megan, her brother Daniel and her beloved best friend and sister, Judy Foley.
Rose is survived by her sons Richard (Kathy) and Andrew (Eileen) and her grandchildren, Bridget (Matt), Hayley, Andrew Ryan, Ian, Aidan and Colin, and her great granddaughters, Megan and Olivia.
There will be a graveside memorial at Flushing Cemetery at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Alzheimer’s Association: Alzheimer’s Association | Donate to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease
