Cathy Geil unexpectedly passed away on January 4, 2024. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family, and we are thankful that she did not suffer.
Cathy was born in Kingston, NY to Frank J. Burke and Catherine LaVelle Burke. She lived in Mount Vernon, NY and Eastchester, NY. She graduated from St. Clare’s Academy and Misericordia School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in the Emergency Department at Misericordia/Our Lady of Mercy and Lawrence hospital. She finished her career working in risk management for the AON corporation.
Cathy had a zeal for living that she expressed with her appreciation for the small treasures, whether it was a quiet moment in a beautiful place, a conversation with someone, or a lively celebration with family and friends. She enjoyed reading, shopping, decorating and most of all spending time with her loved ones, especially at the beach. Cathy had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyment of life, and loved to laugh. In addition to snuggling with her granddaughter Nadia, she loved soft shell crab, lamb with mint jelly, bananas, and brushing her teeth. And wine.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Terry, her daughter Tricia of Bethlehem, PA, her son Kevin of Lake Placid, NY and his wife Sarah (Maroun) and granddaughter Nadia Cathleen (8 years old).
She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses – Ray and Bonnie Burke, Bob and Anne Marie Burke, Nancy Burke and Tim Rogers, and sister-in-law Eileen Moran. She has five nieces and nephews – Kimberly O’Brien (Jesse), Bobby Burke (godson), Raymond Burke (Linda Haller), Cara Burke, and Michael Burke. She was also close to grandnieces and grandnephews Erin O’Brien, Declan O’Brien, Catherine Corina Burke, Raymond Christopher Burke, and Hudson Burke. She is predeceased by her brother Frank Burke and brothers-in-law John Geil and Don Moran.
Cathy was a member of St. Mary – Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. When she was able, she attended mass daily. She was involved in many charitable projects through the church including running the blood drive and delivering meals to the needy. She also participated in projects through the American Legion with Terry.
Cathy suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, and we know she would appreciate donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
