International Communications Expert Jeffrey Totaro dies at 59

An award-winning, inspirational mentor to thousands of people in more than 35 countries, international marketing and advertising expert Jeffrey Totaro, 59, died July 17, 2016, from multiple myeloma.

With a unique combination of content and communication advertising agency experience, Totaro brought a very special expertise in intercultural understanding and application to global business. Most recently, he was Global Culture and Communications Director/ P&G Global Account, MediaCom, in New York. He worked with global, regional and local teams around the world to develop best practices that leveraged collaborative cross-cultural solutions.

Totaro graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Communication Studies and received his MS in Advertising from the Medill School of Journalism. His illustrious career began at Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, where he became the first Chicago office recipient of the Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Chairman’s Award for making the greatest contribution to an O&M client.

Totaro received many more industry awards as he moved from the U.S. to Singapore, Melbourne, and the Asia Pacific region. For the last several years, Jeff has worked with MediaCom and client teams around the world from his base in New York. 

Jeff is survived by his spouse, Damian Sim; his mother Caraline Graywolf; stepmother Kathleen Totaro; siblings Lisabeth Harmsen, Christopher (Telma)Totaro, Christina (Ben) Anguiano and Tamara Talbott ; aunts Rosemarie Foley and Phyllis Jennings; Uncle Jim (Pam) Wolfe; many adoring cousins, nieces, nephews and a grandnephew. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Totaro and aunts Rita Totaro, Nettie Totaro, Anna Pasquarello, and Fran Swendeman.

A memorial service celebrating Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 2 pm at The Village Lutheran Church. Inquiries may be sent to: jeff.totaro.memorial@gmail.com
