Memorial Service:  2:00 pm, Friday, March 4, 2016, the Reformed Church of Bronxville

 

Lee Sanders Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY on February 28th. Born in Los Angeles, CA, she was raised in Rochester, NY and graduated from Rosemary Hall and Skidmore College. In 1952, she left her editorial position at Harpers Bazaar to move to Charlottesville, VA. where her husband, Briscoe “Sandy” Smith was completing law school.  In 1964, they settled in the Bronxville vicinity where they lived for more than 50 years raising their three children. Lee was well-known for her engaging and original sense of humor, elegant and glamorous style, and devotion to her family and many friends. She lit up any room she entered and was sought after by all those who knew her. She was especially proud of her children, Radford, and wife JB, Ranson and husband Ken, and Brewster and wife, Heather and her six grandchildren. For many years she was active in her community and church. She was a main stay of the Song Pipers, a celebrated musical therapy singing group. She lead a number of fundraising efforts and completed course work for a masters degree in pastoral counseling. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Lucia Sanders Beer of Angelica, New York and her Uncle, James Rush Lee of Newport Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.A memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of Bronxville on Friday, March 4th at 2pm.
