Margaret Mary Schulz

Margaret was born June 12, 1931 in Tuckahoe, NY to Ernst Richard and Teresa (Delaney) Schulz, sister to Richard, Theodore, Mary and Teresa. Beyond her devotion to her family, Mother Mary and Jesus Christ, she was the most wonderful aunt dubbed “Aunt Mar” to her many nieces and nephews – Chris, Maryanne, Kathy (John), Liz (Ed), Susan (Kevin), Greg (Jenny), and Megan, and their children Jennifer, Cara, Ryan, Jonathan, Christina, Rosie, John, Katie, Kirsten, Sean, Brendan, Tim, Taryn, Teddy, Eva, Henry, and Eleanor.

After being diagnosed with polio at 4 years old, Margaret made it her life’s work to help others facing physical afflictions. She was one of the first graduates of the Occupational Therapy program at Columbia University, and made a real difference in her patient’s lives while working at exceptional rehab institutions including Burke Rehabilitation, Kessler Institute (NJ), and United Hospital, and then in home care at the end of her career. She was so dedicated to her craft that she was still working at the young age of 80. She made lifelong friends with many of the people she treated and was gifted in devising clever methods to help them navigate the daily tasks most of us take for granted.

Margaret was passionate about reading, saying the Rosary and travelling, enjoying many trips with her mother, her brother Teddy and beloved friend Betty who predeceased her and are now welcoming her to all the wonders of heaven. She relished weekly Sunday meals prepared by her sister in law Iva and took great pleasure in attending every one of her nieces’ and nephews’ graduations, performances, baptisms, confirmations and weddings. She was fond of her wine and cheese and left this earth peacefully on the afternoon of February 15 just in time for happy hour upstairs with many of her favorite people.  Aunt Mar leaves a legacy of laughter and love and her memory will live on in her family and friends by way of acts of kindness, sips of Cabernet and dutiful patronage of Barnes & Noble.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb 20 at 10:30AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 19, from 4PM to 8PM at the McGrath Funeral Home, Bronxville.
