Salvatore Promuto, 82, of New Rochelle, NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of the late Susan (née Testa) and loving father of daughter Sondra (David) Lieberman, son Louis (Danielle) Promuto and daughter Shana Promuto. Beloved Pop to five grandchildren: Joshua, Sloane, Jaxon, Corey and Harley. Loving brother to Marie Promuto, the late Vincent Promuto and the late Diana Promuto.
Born in the Bronx, NY, to Concetta (née Spitalere) and Louis Promuto. Sal was a graduate of Mt. St. Michael Academy, and Villanova University. He and his siblings worked for more than forty years in the family owned private sanitation business in the Bronx. The business was later acquired by Waste Management.
Sal was a humble man, known for his gentle and kind manner. He enjoyed his retirement years spending quality time with his wife and family. His summers were spent at the family home in East Quogue, NY, where he enjoyed gardening, fishing and trips to the beach. One of Sal’s greatest passions was his love for horses. He owned horses over the years, and enjoyed spending leisurely time at the stables.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., Bronxville.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Bronxville on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 9:45 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sal’s memory to his alma mater, Mount St. Michael Academy, supporting Mount students in financial need. Visit www.mtstmichael.org/giving and click on giving to contribute.
