Rosaline McDermott, age 90, from Crestwood, NY passed away on January 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Rosie, as she was affectionately called, was born on March 3, 1933, in the Bronx to the late Patrick and Jennie (Maguire) Dolan. After attending St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan, she then went on to attend St. John’s University in Queens. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Barney. In 1963, they moved “north” from the Bronx to Crestwood to raise their family. She is survived by her five beautiful children: Laureen (John Coyne predeceased), Colleen, Jeanine (Kevin O’Brien), Patrice, and Brian (Lorraine). Rosie’s legacy extends to the next generation through her twelve cherished grandchildren: Jack (Ali), Luke (predeceased), Kieran, Mairead, Aidan, Declan, Aislinn, Lily, Brennan, Fiona, Siena and Emmet. In addition, she is survived by her three sisters, Jeanine Carr, Barbara Dolan and Kathleen Higgins. She was predeceased by her sister, Marion Spratt and two brothers, Thomas and William Dolan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Rosie was a longtime parishioner at Annunciation Church in Crestwood. She volunteered at Annunciation School and was active in the Ladies Guild and the Rosary Hill Bandage Club. In her retirement, she loved to travel, to spend time at the beach with her family, and whenever possible, to make a quick stop at one of her favorite department stores. Friends are invited to call at the Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home, Bronxville on Friday, January 19th from 4 – 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20th at 11:30am at the Church of the Annunciation, Crestwood.

January 22, 2024 at 3:31 pmFrom when I first met “Rosie” many years ago when John and Laureen got engaged, until the last time I saw her, she always welcomed me (and subsequently my husband and daughter) with heartfelt warmth, interest and affection.
Although I wasn’t an official part of her family, she made me feel as though I was…and she clearly adored my brother! It was a true blessing to have had her in our lives. May she rest in peace.
