On March 16th, we said goodbye to our beloved father George Marinos. George passed in is “89th year on the planet” as he used to say (he was 88 by the way) and was a man of remarkable dedication and love. Born on July 10, 1937 in the mountain village of Pyrgos on the island of Evia, Greece, George spent his early years living a quiet village life until his family fled Greece amidst war and turmoil. Next stop was a world away in Brooklyn, New York where George quickly assimilated, getting a paper route, sneaking into Ebbet’s Field to watch the Dodgers and eventually graduating from NYU with honors. George soon became a Certified Public Accountant, served his country honorably in U.S. Army and married the prettiest girl in Brooklyn, Pauline (Tsangaris) where they started a family. After Brooklyn came Bronxville, New York where George and Pauline raised their children Kathryn and Thomas building a beautiful life, playing mediocre tennis and making memories. In 2018 George and Pauline moved to sunny Florida, making new friends and starting a new chapter.
George was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, serving in various capacities to support and uplift his community. He was immensely proud of his faith, his Greek heritage and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Anastasios and Nina (Kalaras) Marinos, and his wife Pauline in 2024 and is survived by his children, Kathryn and Thomas, Thomas’ wife Kate and grandchildren Adriana, Maxwell and Theodore.
Join us in saying goodbye to George, remembering his life, achievements and memories and finding solace in knowing that he is reunited with his beloved wife.
In lieu of flowers we ask donations are made to our beloved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of New Rochelle or to Cornerstone Hospice, who cared for both mom and dad with compassion and dignity in their final days.
Dad’s service will be held Tuesday, March 24 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 10 Mill Road New Rochelle NY at 10:00am.
