Katherine Ann Koenig, fondly known as Kathy to her friends and Kath to her beloved nephew TJ, passed away on August 28th, 2023 at age 79, from complications due to a host of medical issues. Kathy survived what most people would say was unsurvivable, a testament to her PKD – Pure Kraut Determination. She was proof that the Lord only takes you when it’s your time to go – her friends and family were convinced that she was the cat with nine lives.

Kathy, true to her nature, did things her way, remaining in her apartment and living independently throughout her life. She was polite, kind, proper, and a good listener, with a trademark sing-song manner of speaking. The only thing that could get her worked up was driving the streets of New York. She lived life to the fullest and loved to travel around the world. As she aged, she continued traveling around the US, including several memorable trips to California to visit TJ & Maddy. Her favorite recent memory was enjoying fresh mango and pineapple on the beach in Santa Monica.

She worked for NYU in Washington Square Park in the early 60s and loved the atmosphere. Her only regret was that she never moved to Manhattan. She loved the city, art shows, theater, and, of course, delicious food and Campari cocktails. In the late 60s, she joined General Motors on 59th St. and Madison Ave., where she rose to the level of Executive Assistant and worked mainly with the Board of Directors for the rest of her career; she truly loved her job and gave it her all.

After retiring in 1998, Kathy took an active role in sharing her love for the city and culture with TJ. They were extremely close, and he always thought of her as his “second mom.” TJ enjoyed Kathy’s home-cooked meals, featuring spätzle, ham steak, her famous burgers, and (occasionally) German beer. Their bond was undeniable.

Kathy was the best big sister anyone could ask for – and supported Chris no matter what, even though they had different personalities and lifestyles. They were steadfast friends and confidants for one another, and loved taking frequent vacations to Maine, shopping everywhere in between, and going out for haircuts, dinner, and to the theater.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Koenig.

She is survived by her beloved sister Christine Koenig Price, her brother-in law Thomas Price, her nephew TJ Price and his wife Maddy Young.

Kathy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She now rests in the arms of the Lord forever.

We were ships passing by at the elevator in 4300 and then visits to chat and reminisce. Kathy was always so gracious and a very good listener. Distance meant we did not get to do more of this, but I will always think so fondly of her. Christine — please accept my sincere condolence at the loss of Kathy in your life.
