Manley Khaleel was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 18, 1945 and passed away on July 27, 2014. Manley was the youngest son of Allan and Hyacinth Khaleel, brother to Egbert Bennett, Rowan and Howard Khaleel. Manley was a proud American who never lost sight of his Jamaican heritage. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, husband, grandfather, Omega Psi Phi fraternity and Boyer Lodge One Masonic brother, United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran, and Federal Government employee. Manley was born from humble beginnings with a strong work ethic, integrity, and perseverance. He and his brothers immigrated to the United States from Jamaica in 1952, settling in the South Bronx. While growing up in the South Bronx, he attended Saint Anthony’s Elementary School and Bishop DuBois High School. After graduating high school, he was accepted into the City University of New York, Baruch College majoring in Economics. In 1966, during his time at Baruch he was introduced to and later initiated into the Zeta Psi Chapter   of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.Unfortunately, he had to drop out of college to raise and support his family, but made a promise to his parents to return to college and finish his degree. His return was delayed when he was drafted into the US Air Force serving proudly in the Vietnam War. All of these challenges did not deter Manley from returning to college earning his bachelor’s degree in 1972 and Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Administration in 1974. Manley started his career with the United States Public Health Services (PHS) in 1975 as an Emergency Medical Care Specialist. He held various positions within PHS until his retirement in 2006. Prior to his retirement, Manley was promoted to the position of Chief, Primary Care Branch, Division of Health Services Delivery Region 2 in 1991. After his promotion, he helped found “FedKids” an early childhood development center. During his retirement, Manley was honored for his exemplary and distinguished career which spanned 31 years with the department. Manley had and will continue to have a positive influence on just about everyone he has come to know by sharing his wisdom of living a positive and meaningful life and instilling the value of hard work, integrity, and pursuit of knowledge. Because of these qualities, he enriched the lives of everyone  he touched. Manley leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Anita, daughter Shawniqua, stepdaughter Victoria, sons Malcolm, Marcus and Miles, brothers Rowan and Howard, grandchildren Xavier and Madeline, nephews and nieces Greg, Robert, Thaddeus and Leandra, along with thousands of Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers. He also leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered by so many who love him.

Manley, you are in our hearts always.
