Walter James Kenney (Jim), age 74, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020 at New Rochelle Hospital in New York. Jim was born September 22, 1945, to Emily and Walter Kenney. He was raised in Garden City Long Island with his brother Bill Kenney, and his sister Kath Kenney Bergin. Jim attended Adelphi University on Long island, where he played varsity football. Mr. Kenney went on to achieve the rank of Lieutenant in the United States Navy, where he fought for his country in the Vietnam War. Jim achieved great success on Wall Street where he was a Government bond trader for Lehman Brothers, and Prudential Securities. His pursuits in the financial services industry continued on to present day where he was a mortgage loan professional at Wells Fargo securities. Jim was a devoted husband and father. His late Wife Marina Kenney passed away in 2011 after a brave fight with breast cancer. Jim Kenney survived by his son Stephen Kenney, daughter-in-law Jennifer Kenney, grand-daughter Grace “Gracie girl” Kenney, and twin grandsons William and James Kenney whom were named after Jim and his brother Bill. Jim was a very proud father and grandfather, and was loved immensely by his family. Jim was a social pillar in his hometown of Bronxville, NY. He was a regular at Underhill’s Crossing, and would always welcome his friends and family with a large smile. His laugh was infectious, his heart was enormous, and his motto throughout good times and bad was to always “maintain your sense of humor”. Jim Kenney will be buried with his loving wife Marina at Gates of Heaven cemetery, and a memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his life. We miss and love you Grandpa Jim. We will carry your strength and positive attitude with us daily, and always aspire to be more like Jim.

April 15, 2020 at 10:23 amMy friend for a lifetime Big Jim joined together with love and respect going back so many years. Jim and I talked constantly arranging our schedules to meet for a dinner generally monthly. I spoke last with him on March 28
We would meet up and time stood still for hours talking family and issues in our own lives to encourage each other to stay the course with positive attitude. Jim & I learned early in life genuine friendships are the gold standard. Our friendship and values of terrific people who shared that journey was beyond anything else to us to keep the bonds strong
Jim was a treasure to me for now near 60 years sharing life and wonderful funny moments and chaos at times because that’s the journey for each of us. Jim was a class friend with engaging smile that made you feel special when he walked into our company.
I know his son is so proud of his dad “ Big Jim “ because they shared a loving bond a great dad and a special devoted son joined at the hip.
Jim leaves his son Steven both a legacy and a God ordained blueprint for life now. Big Jim shared lifetime wisdom with his son filled with a dad’s special love. Jim was a man of tenderness , kindness , humor and integrity with a huge heart for life. I know Big Jim had God’s hands upon him comfortably taking him to our eternal home with God. We shared the journey so like so many thank you Jim for being such a significant part of my life. Your the best.
