Gilmartin, Theresa J. November 25, 1926 - April 9, 2020

Theresa Josephine Gilmartin, 93, passed peacefully, Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Sunrise of Old Tappan, NJ. She was born November 25, 1926 in New York City to John and Bridget (McManus) Caulfield.  Theresa spent her childhood in County Mayo, Ireland and is a proud graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan. She was a beloved neighbor in the Boulevard Gardens of Woodside, Queens for 50 years. Theresa married William Edward Gilmartin on November 10, 1951 at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Manhattan.  She worked as a secretary at Mosler Safe Company and at MetLife. She also served as the secretary to Monsignor Dalla Villa, Rector of  Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with great devotion to the Church, until she retired in 1991.

Theresa was a devout Catholic woman and always supported the parishes she attended. Theresa sang in the choirs of Corpus Christi Church and Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Manhattan. She loved music, theater, and art and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Theresa is survived by her five children: Mary, William, Deirdre, Regina, and James, by her eleven grandchildren: John, Steven, Brittany, Nicole, Ryan, Erin, Matthew, Colleen, Devin, Aidan and Tess and her great-granddaughter Charlie. She is predeceased by her husband, who passed in June, 1969, and by her sister, Sr. Mary Regina Caulfield, who passed in September, 2019. Theresa will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

The family will plan a memorial service at a later time.
