Kelleher, Daniel June 8, 1936 - April 19, 2024

Daniel F. Kelleher, 87, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away at home at Five Star Premier Residences in Yonkers, New York on Friday, April 19, 2024 after battling a brief illness.
Son of the late Walter and Mary Agnes (nee Young), Dan was born on June 8, 1936 in the Bronx, New York.  He was the youngest of three brothers both of whom predeceased him.  Dan’s oldest brother, Walter, was a Maryknoll priest for 55 years spending much of his time stationed in Japan.
Dan graduated from Manhattan College in 1958 with a degree in Engineering.  After college, he had a long and noteworthy career working as a Civil Engineer for the City of New York.  Through the various underground tunnel and infrastructure projects he worked on during his career, Dan gained a unique understanding of the subterranean City which later became the subject of many great stories he told his family and friends.
In 1973, Dan married Kathleen McGovern and they were together for 50 years celebrating their latest wedding anniversary in October last year.  Kathleen and Dan spent most of those years together as a happy and loving couple living on Ellison Avenue in Bronxville, New York. Dan was also a boating enthusiast and a long-time member of the City Island Yacht Club.  Dan was blessed with the gift of gab and the club at City Island was frequently the place where he would regale friends and family with tales of his work and travels.
Uncle Dan was easy to talk to and genuinely interested in hearing the thoughts and experiences of others.  He was always willing to take the time to share his wit, wisdom and advice with his nieces and nephews.  If you had been out of touch for months or even longer, when you reconnected with Uncle Dan it was as if you had spoken yesterday.
Dan is survived by his wife Kathleen, his sisters-in-law Margaret Keaveney and Susan McGovern, and ten nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dan will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 15 Cedar St., Bronxville, New York at 10:45am on Monday, April 29th.  Family and friends are also invited to a viewing which will take place before mass at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home at 20 Cedar St., Bronxville, New York, which is located across the street from St. Joseph’s, between the hours of 9am to 10:30am.
