Gorman, Bernard J.,age 97, on June 26, 2021. Beloved husband of Eileen for 71 years, adored father of Mona Elizabeth and John. Also survived by his loving sister-in-law Norma Contessa as well several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. “Barney” had a long and distinguished career in real estate encompassing brokerage, management and consulting. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the commercial office market in Manhattan. He was past chairman of the YM/YW Real Estate Association and an active member of the Real Estate Board of New York, serving on the board of governors, the executive committee, and as treasurer. As a member of the board’s arbitration committee, he was valued for his fairness and intelligence and was often called upon to settle disputes among brokers. Earlier in his life, serving as a trustee of the Eastchester New York Board of Education, he was cited for his ”courage and firmness in the presence of educational crises and a source of comfort and strength to the Board.” He was a member of the Westchester Country Club for 45 years. Most importantly his family and many friends will remember his abundant generosity, exquisite kindness, radiant smile and enthusiastic spirit. He conducted every aspect of his life with integrity, graciousness and decency. Facing serious health challenges over the past 3 years, he displayed remarkable strength, optimism and resilience that left an indelible impression upon the doctors, nurses and aides who cared for him. “Quite a special man indeed”. A memorial mass celebrating his life will be announced.
