Ignazio, (Iggy) Franciamore

August 29, 1939 – September 19, 2024

Iggy Franciamore was born on August 29, 1939, in Bivona, a town in Agrigento, Italy. His love for cars started early, and in 1957, at just 18 years old, he began working as an apprentice mechanic for Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany. Although his time in Germany was brief, the skills he acquired shaped his career. He soon returned to his hometown in Italy, where he applied his newfound expertise to servicing European vehicles, building a reputation for his dedication and craft.

In 1960, Iggy met the love of his life, Rosalie, and they were married on December 10th of that year. A year later, the young couple made the bold decision to emigrate to the United States, seeking new opportunities. In May 1961, they arrived in New York City, settling in Midtown Manhattan on Second Avenue. Iggy quickly found work at Hoffman Motors, a Volkswagen Importer, where he honed his skills for the next two years.

By 1963, Iggy and Rosalie had moved to The Bronx, joining other family members in the area. His expertise with cars continued to grow, and by 1967, Iggy felt ready to pursue a lifelong dream. With hard work, determination, and the support of his four brothers, he opened his own repair shop, “Quattroruote” (Four Wheels). Iggy served as the service manager, while Rosalie handled the administrative side of the business. Together, they built a thriving enterprise grounded in their dedication to quality and family values.

In 1968, Iggy’s ambitions expanded even further. That year, he founded F and S Motors, which became a franchised dealer of BMW and, later, Alfa Romeo. For the next 38 years, he remained at the helm of this successful dealership, where his passion for cars, especially classic automobiles, was evident to everyone who knew him.

Iggy’s life was a testament to the power of family, hard work, and following one’s passions. He leaves behind a legacy of determination, a successful business, and a love for classic cars that will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
