Seamus Finnerty, 55, passed away peacefully July 28, 2013, after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. Beloved husband to Betsy (nee Murphy), proud and loving daddy to Aileen (Brian) and Maura. Cherished son of Brigid and Tony, adored big brother of Ellen, Anthony, John, Teresa, Angela, his God-daughter Caroline, and David. Will be sincerely missed by his mother-in-law Vera Murphy (nee Lynott), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and 21 nieces and nephews; in addition to a very large extended family across the globe. Seamus emigrated to New York August of 1980. Betsy and Seamus were married July of 1982; settling in Crestwood and Annunciation Parish in 1991. Aileen Bridget was welcomed October 11, 1986, joined by Maura Elizabeth September 16, 1990. Aileen married Brian Doohan on July 9, 2011. Proudest achievements: winning north mayo Junior Football Cup in 1980, meeting president of Ireland Mary Robinson, past President of the Woodlawn Golf Club (member since 1982), founding member of Links/Union Vale, member of the “Hole in One Club”, proud member of Local 608/157 since 1981 working for NYC Board of Education for 20 years, coaching multiple soccer teams for Aileen and Maura, and working at Ground Zero for 9 months. Non-wavering supporter of Mayo GAA, loved by all children, who returned his love. He found heaven on Earth in Crestwood with all his wonderful neighbors.
