Delgado, Georgina Lugo May 25, 1931 - October 7, 2022

                                                                                       Georgina Lugo Delgado

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Georgina Lugo Delgado at age 91, on October 7, 2022. She was born in Guánica, Puerto Rico on May 25, 1931. She was the youngest of seven and raised in Yauco, Puerto Rico.  Nicknamed Denny by her mother and siblings she was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Georgina was the matriarch of the family.  Her pride and joy was being a wife to her husband, Secundino Delgado and loving mother to her children, Samuel, Noel, Miriam, Nancy, Gladys, and Lucy; as well as loving grandmother to her eleven grandchildren. She was proud of her children’s accomplishments.  She adored and loved them all, but her greatest accomplishment was caring for her son Noel, born with special needs. Her last instructions was to take care of him.  She also cared for her own mother Georgina Lugo until her passing in 1991.

For those fortunate to have known her, they were blessed with her amazing Puerto Rican cooking. She brought the family together at every meal.  Her dishes would transport family and neighbors alike to experience the most authentic Puerto Rican food; not only by warming their bellies but their hearts with stories, laughter, and conversations.  She was gentle and strong and had a big and loving heart. She cared for all her family members and looked out for everyone.   There was no one quite like her. She was always helping less fortunate neighbors. She will be forever missed. Rest in peace Denny, You will be forever in our hearts and live eternity in our memories.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, on Friday, October 14 at 10:45 am

In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to the “Dominican Sisters of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima” in her name – Georgina Lugo Delgado.

Our mother had been a supporter of their ministry in helping the poor and infirmed since 1949. Her older sister, Titi Waldina (Sor Imelda), was one of the Order’s founders.  We feel this will be a wonderful way to honor my mother’s beautiful life and memory. Below is where donations can be sent. I thank each one of you.

My condolences to you and the entire Delgado family. I grew up in the same place that all of you did and I remember your dear mother, brother and you and family. Living up the hill from your family on Dr. No., I would pass your windows on my way to the stores. Always, whenever I spotted your mom in your kitchen window, she would smile and wave to me. It left an imprint on me…a good memory. She was very nice to my mom who had alot of kids too. I was oldest of 7. My family moved away in 1974 and I did not see your mom again till maybe 20 or 30 years ago at Burger King Cross Co. She and Noel both recognized me. It was so good to see them.
In more recent years my daughter( an employee at Stop& Shop)would encounter your Mom, Noel and Nancy whenever they were shopping or picking up prescriptions at the store. They stood out to her in such a good way just as your mom and family stood out to me .
        God bless you all.

To the Delgado Family – Just heard of your mother”s passing today. She was one of the most beautiful and gentle people I have ever met in my entire life. She was always so kind and loving to us children growing up in the neighborhood. She is surely now resting in peace in heaven. It was an honor and blessing to have had the opportunity to know her and to love her. May God bless you all. Danny Herlihy
