Ann Caruso, a longtime resident of Bronxville, passed away on April 12 at the age of 98. Most recently, she lived at The Fountains in RiverVue in Tuckahoe. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Frank, to whom she was married for 73 years.
Ann worked as an executive assistant over a span of 50 years for both Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Dollar Dry Dock Savings Bank. When many would choose to retire, Ann continued working because she loved interacting with people. Well into her 80s, she was the receptionist at The Chapel School in Bronxville. She loved getting to know the children and their parents. Everyone who came by her desk knew there would be a friendly face and a sweet treat waiting for them.
Ann and Frank had two children – the late Denise (Tony) Montaruli and John (Beth) Caruso. They have five grandchildren – Anthony (Julie), Mark (Melissa), AmyRose (Corey), Carolyn and Michael – and three great–grandchildren – Nicholas, Noah and Zachary.
What gave Ann joy were the simple things. She loved being surrounded by her family, especially on Sundays; she kept the tradition of the Italian Sunday dinner alive and well. She lived to care for those she loved; remembering the special items each person appreciated and always keeping them on hand. Her pizzelle were legendary.
Ann was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Bronxville. Many remembered Frank and her sitting in the front pew at 5 PM mass every Saturday evening.
Ann had a fondness for the Sisters of Charity and their many ministries. It always made her day when she got a phone call or a visit from one of the Sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one of the organizations founded by the Sisters – Elizabeth Seton Children’s, 300 Corporate Boulevard South, Yonkers, New York 10701.
Calling hours are at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville between the hours of 3 PM and 5 PM on Sunday, April 14. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church in Bronxville on Monday, April 15 at 9:45 AM.
