Carroll, Richard L. April 9, 1935 - July 23, 2024

Richard “Dickie” Carroll of Bronxville passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on April 9, 1935, Richard spent 89 wonderful years spreading joy to those around him and devoting his life to his family, building a foundation of unrivaled love and warmth.

One of fourteen children, Richard grew up in New Rochelle, NY to Lottie and Bernard Carroll. Always knowing he wanted to build a large family of his own, Richard was lucky enough to meet the love of his life, Camilla “Millie” Carroll, at the young age of 18. Richard then served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany with his unit, the Third Armored Division. As soon as he returned, he married his best friend on April 20, 1958. Richard was so incredibly proud to say that, “building a family from pure love was his greatest accomplishment.” From his words, “There is no feeling like the one when our kids and grandkids are all together. It’s a room full of so much love, and it all started with us.”

Richard’s spirit will continue to live on through his proud wife of 66 years, Camilla Carroll; his three extraordinary children, Patricia Carroll, Jackie Braca, and Richard Carroll; his caring son-in-law, John Braca; his eight loving grandchildren, Bryan Engels, J Carroll, Cait Nitzberg, John and Michael Braca, Brianna, Rory, and Kelly Carroll; and his five spirited great-grandchildren, Ellis and Gustavo Carroll, Millie and Warren Engels, and Emory Nitzberg. A huge part of who they are is because of the husband, father, and “Poppy” Richard was. His family will carry those pieces of him with them forever, ensuring everyone they meet will know him, too. Though they will deeply miss those sparkling blue eyes, they are comforted by his joyful memories as they reflect on the full and devoted life he lived. They all feel so lucky to have loved and been loved by Richard for so many years.

Richard’s family requests all of his loved ones to join them in honoring his cherished life at Fred H McGrath & Son, Inc. in Bronxville on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 4 to 8 pm. Mass will be held at 9:45 am on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvary Hospital in his name.

Love your baby blues. You will be sadly missed. You were always so much fun to be with. I’ll not forget the first time you mentioned how you loved the cold cut soppressata and I recently thought to myself, given a son of Irish heritage, Aunt Millie could have only been the one to offer you this meat and so much more. Aunt Millie brought so much light to your eyes and you both were so passionate about your lives together. A branch is broken but you will never leave our hearts and memories. Until we meet again love Karen and your sister Dottie. 🩵

I am deeply sorry for your family’s loss. He was a delightful guy who truly had a twinkle in his eye whenever I saw him at Brooklands or visiting his daughter Jackie when she managed my gym. Rest in peace.
