Mary Jane Ahearn passed away peacefully on July 22ndat Calvary Hospital. She was the beloved wife of John, her husband of 48 years, and devoted mother of son John Gregory. Mary Jane was the only child of Irish parents, Frank and Molly Gregory to whom she was a devoted daughter and caretaker in their later years. She was raised in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx where she developed lifelong friendships.
Mary Jane met her husband, John, while they were both working at The Columbia- Presbyterian Medical Center. Her professional career culminated with her working as the executive Assistant to the Senior Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs for the Medical Center campus. Mary Jane retired to stay home upon the birth of her son. During those years she was active in volunteering for the St. Joseph’s Mother Club, The Ladies of Charity and later The Bronxville Women’s Club. For the last 25 years, she served as a Eucharistic Minister until her diagnosis.
She will be remembered by those who knew her as someone who was wonderfully kind, gentle, fun loving with a million-dollar smile. To her husband and son, she will be remembered for all that and her courage, strength, fortitude, and the dignity she showed throughout her illness.
She was not just a joy to be around, she was an inspiration.
