Helen Elizabeth Hanlon Brass, of Bronxville, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19, 2016, at the Briarcliff Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. Beloved wife of the late Pater Brass, loving mother of Donald (Grace) and Richard (Ann), Dear Grandmother of Donna Suddarth, Dennis, Kevin, Susan Gross, Carolyn, Deborah, Jackie Ponticiello and Tim and great grandmother of 11. Helen was born on April 27, 1913 in Bronxville to Denis and Rose Hanlon at the Bailey Estate. She was pre-deceased by her 8 brothers and sisters, Denis Hanlon (Eleanor), Kay Hopmann (Fred), Ann Hanlon, Johanna Knight (Ed), John Hanlon, Frank Hanlon (Doris), John Hanlon (Alice) and Marge (Arthur). Helen was a lifelong resident of Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Eastchester, graduating from Immaculate Conception School, Eastchester High School, Mount Vernon Hospital School of Nursing and NYU. She was married to Peter Brass at Immaculate Conception Church, on April 25, 1935 and raised two sons Donald and Richard.   Helen was a registered Nurse at the Mt. Vernon Hospital while raising a family. In 1951 Helen began a new career as school nurse teacher in the Mt. Vernon School System. She worked at Lincoln, Traphagen and Pennington Schools, over the next 25 years, retiring in 1975. Helen then began playing golf with friends she met at Lake Isle Country Club. At the same time, she continued to travel the world on freighters with her sister-in-law, Eleanor Hanlon until she saw most of the world. Helen always came home to her family, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren to reaffirm her feeling of family. She has passed on her great love of family to the next generations.
