Meaney, Catherine – Fred H. McGrath & Son, Inc.

Catherine Meaney (nee Roberts), age 87, resident of Bronxville, New York, passed away
peacefully on January 9, 2024. Kitty, as she was always known, was predeceased by her
husband Flannan in September 2023 and by her son Brian (Maureen Farrell) in July 2023. She is
survived by her children Mary (Gregory Molloy), Eileen, Susan (Peter Incledon), and Frank
(Alice); her grandchildren Margaret and Brendan Molloy, Megan, Caroline and Conor Incledon,
and Aidan, Brian, and Christopher Meaney; great-granddaughter Clare Kavanaugh; and by her in sisters Linda Murdy, Betty Carolan, Louie Mack, and brother Gerard Roberts, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews here and in Ireland. Kitty was also predeceased by her sisters Nellie and Patsy, and brothers Christy, Frank, John, and Harry.

Kitty grew up in Ennis, County Clare as one of 11 children in a small thatched cottage, which
must have been overflowing, even more so, as various aunts, uncles and grandparents lived
there at times as well. Kitty graduated from high school and went on to nursing school in
England. In 1960, she headed to New York as a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan.
Attending a Clare dance at Gaelic Park, she met her soon-to-be husband Flan. Five children
came in quick succession.

Despite the demands of raising five children, Kitty continued to work as an RN, now at
Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. Kitty had clearly chosen the right career because she was
exactly the person you would want to look after you if you were sick. With her patients as well
as her family and friends, she was kind and gentle, with a soft and calming presence.

Kitty was a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren. She was always relaxed, never
rushed, and completely interested in what was going on in their lives. She was fun to be with,
and very funny, and had a cheerful, pleasant demeanor. This year, she was so happy to be able to meet her new great-granddaughter. Since her retirement 25 years ago, Kitty enjoyed
spending her summers in Ireland, visiting with all the family there, and having her grandchildren
come to visit.

Quiet pursuits were her enjoyment. She loved to putter in the garden, to read a good book, a
shopping trip, lunch included, and to enjoy a nice chat and cup of tea with her family or friends.
She truly enjoyed the people she was with, and they always felt that.

Viewing will be on Monday, January 15th, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at McGrath Funeral Home,
Bronxville, New York. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at
10:45 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville.

A gentle caring dedicated lady who was known as
Nurse of Wickham, as I can attest to personally as you removed my stitches.
Your caring and generosity to my mom and my brother and I after we lost our dad will never be forgotten.

Sincere condolences to Mary , Eileen , Susan , Frank & all the family on the loss of a wonderful mother , grandmother & great grandmother.
Auntie Kitty was a very special lady , a beautiful person both inside & out of which we have many wonderful memories of times spent together over the years . Memories we will cherish . Our trips to New York certainly won’t be the same .
Rest in Peace now Auntie Kitty , reunited with Uncle Flan & Brian , you will be missed so much .

  A bright shining star in our Bronx neighborhood. She loved when her children’s friends came over to play or just hang out on the porch. She always exhibited a sense of class and elegance while at the same time enjoying life and people. I will always remember her as I have always respected her. Dear Mary, Susan, Eileen, Frankie and family,

Your mom was a great woman and caring. Our family benefited her love and caring when our late mom was dying with 104 Fever she came over and came with us to Bronx Lebanon Hospital. She stayed with us at the hospital and when the hospital said my mom was to go home there was nothing more that they could do. She worked with my late father for alternative suggestions and they brought my mom to Bellevue Hospital. My mom did die at the age of 50 from leukemia several weeks later but your mom was in touch with dad. He took comfort in her love and care.
The last time I saw your mom was coming out of St Joseph’s Mass several years ago and even though I hadn’t seen her since our days in the Bronx. She asked how I was doing and the family, remembering my hip troubles I had as a teenager.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers, RIP Mrs.Meaney, you are with your beloved husband and son Brian and all family and friends gone before.

We were so saddened to hear of Kittys sudden passing. Our sincerest sympathies to Mary,Eileen ,Susan,Frank, her cherished grandchildren and her extended family and friends. Kitty was a truly wonderful lady ,great sense of humor and it was always so lovely to meet and chat with her. We have so many wonderful memories of Kitty and Uncle Flan on their several trips to Kilrush over the years.
We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and we also remember Uncle Flan and Brian.

So very sorry that Auntie Kitty has passed. Our sincere condolences to Mary, Eileen, Susan and Frank on losing your beautiful Mom. Thinking of all of her grandchildren and Betty , Linda and Louis, nieces and nephews and all the extended family. We will all miss Auntie Kitty so much, she was such a warm , kind and fun lady.
