Valerie Patricia Ann Walter

 

         Valerie Patricia Ann Walter of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Eastchester, NY, beloved mother of Chelsea Kingsland Woodruff and Alexandra (Ali) Malone Woodruff, died on 16 January 2015 at her home in South Carolina.

Raised in Eastchester, NY, the loving daughter of Patricia McCafferty Walter of Mequon, WI, and the late C. Richard Walter, Ms. Walter is survived by six siblings; Mark (Margy) Walter, Gregory (Janine) Walter, Stephanie (Rich) Gannon, Lisa (Chuck) Christiansen, Deirdre (John) Fahy and Tara (Jim) Elgass as well as her caregivers Alisa Knopp and her nephew Greg Walter Jr, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews.

         Valerie graduated from Eastchester High School and SUNY-Geneseo and received an MBA from Baruch College. She worked in the investment banking industry in NY, Hilton Head, and Baltimore, culminating her career as a Vice President at Wells Fargo.  She was a proud member of Zonta International.

A spinal cord injury suffered in 2007 left Valerie paralyzed, but through years of hard work and intensive therapy at theInternational Center for Spinal Cord Injury (ICSCI) at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, she was able to regain some mobility after her accident.  Valerie’s positive attitude and determination were an inspiration to her friends and family as well as everyone who met her.

         A wake will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, Bronxville, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 10:00 am  to 12:30 pm, followed by a funeral mass at 1:00pm at  the Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe.  Interment will be at Holy Mount Cemetery, Eastchester.

         In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury (ICSCI) at Kennedy Krieger Institute, 707 North Broadway, Baltimore, MD, 21205.
