Walker, John W. August 14, 1965 - November 4, 2026

John (Johnnie) Walker

1965 – 2026

John Walker, affectionately known to many as Johnnie Walker, passed away on November 4, 2026, at the age of 61.

Born in Yonkers, New York, John attended Iona Grammar School and Fordham Prep before earning his bachelor’s degree in Sociology from McDaniel College in Western Maryland. An athlete from a young age, he played baseball and football throughout his school and college years.

John enjoyed a successful career spanning more than two decades in the commercial film production industry. As a production manager and producer, he worked on television commercials, concerts, and music videos, collaborating with talented directors and production teams across the country. Among his professional accomplishments was his 12-year involvement in producing Wendy’s television commercials, along with projects for major brands including Merck, Target, and Verizon. He was respected for his leadership, professionalism, and ability to bring people together.

John’s love of sports continued throughout his life. He generously gave his time to coaching youth soccer in Yorktown and Little League baseball in Croton-on-Hudson, where he also served as a board member. He was an active member of the local elementary school’s PTA and deeply valued his involvement in the community.

A lifelong Mets fan, John nevertheless encouraged his son to become a Yankees fan, believing it might offer him a more optimistic baseball experience—a reflection of John’s wonderful sense of humor.

John had a generous heart and believed in helping others. One of his meaningful traditions was spending Thanksgiving evenings in Central Park, distributing food to people experiencing homelessness. It was a quiet expression of the kindness and compassion that defined him.

Beyond his love of sports, John was also an avid and skilled golfer. He had a lifelong passion for film, photography, and rock and roll, particularly the music of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. A true gentleman, he was known for his warmth, honesty, humor, and genuine care for others.

Above all, John was a loving husband and devoted father. He dedicated much of the past decade to being present for his son, supporting his education, sports, and everyday life. His family was always at the center of his world.

John is survived by his wife, Ellen; his beloved son, Justin; his sisters, Susan Walker Shepherd and her husband, Michael Shepherd, and Patricia Walker, M.D.

He was also a dedicated uncle to David and Olivia Shepherd, Jennifer and Hunter Giles, and Alison and Benjamin Wells, and a loving great-uncle to Melody, Liam, Charles, Felicity, and Sadie Wells; Frank and Maeve Shepherd; and August Giles.

John was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Justin Walker and Gloria Walker, and his brother, William Walker.

John will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his generous spirit, and the love he shared with those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Bushra Mina at Northwell Health for the care and compassion shown to John.
