Taylor, Carol Hunter June 6, 2026

Carol Hunter Taylor, a 42-year resident of Bronxville, New York died at her home on January 20, 2013.

She was 84 years old and born in Port Huron, Michigan on November 26, 1928 to the late George M. Hunter and Cornelia Mather Hunter. After graduating from Port Huron High School in 1946, Carol moved to Madison, South Dakota when her father became publisher of the Madison Daily Leader.

She attended the University of Colorado where she met her future husband, Arthur G. Taylor, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. Carol and Arthur were married in Madison on June 6, 1952 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012. After her wedding she lived in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Charlottesville, Virginia where her son was born.

Carol moved to Cleveland Heights, Ohio in 1957 where her two daughters were born, and where she was active in St. Paul Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights and the Cleveland Playhouse.

She settled in Bronxville, New York in 1970. While raising her three children Carol was active at Christ Church in Bronxville, a former Director of the Altar Guild, a member of Women of Christ Church, a past President of the Eliza Frost Day Care Center and a recipient of the Christ Church Medal. An avid gardener, she was a past President and a longtime member of the Boulder Ledge Garden Club in Bronxville.

Carol was an ardent fan of the theatre and a patron of the arts both in New York City and London. She traveled extensively throughout the world. As an active member of the Bronxville Chapter of American Field Service (AFS) she hosted several foreign exchange students. Carol served for many years as a Placement Officer at AFS’s Headquarters in New York City placing students from aboard with host families in the United States. It was through AFS that she met and subsequently adopted Zheng Yang Wen from China.

Carol and her husband maintained a second home in Brookline, Vermont where she indulged her passion for gardening and which served as a gathering point for her family, friends and beloved pets.

In addition to her husband Arthur, Carol is survived by her three children, George Taylor and his wife Ann of Litchfield, Connecticut, Mary Taylor Behrens and her husband Christopher Behrens and Margaret Taylor Conaton and her husband Michael Conaton all of Bronxville, Zheng Yang Wen of Manchester, England; and nine grandchildren: Sarah Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Michael Conaton III, Christopher Behrens Jr., Patrick Conaton, Matthew Behrens, Kathleen Conaton, Charles Taylor and Madison Taylor.

Wise, thoughtful and generous, Carol loved her family above all else.

The Rite of Burial and Mass of Resurrection for Carol Hunter Taylor will be held at Christ Church in Bronxville, NY at 2pm on Saturday, January 26th.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Church Endowment at 17 Sagamore Road or the Lawrence Hospital Cancer Center at 55 Palmer Avenue both in Bronxville, NY 10708.
