Angela dosen’t look 103 at all and is in great shape except for the pains of arthritis. She was born in Scranton, Pa. on May 3, 1910 and was 2nd oldest to her 7 siblings….. 5 Sisters and 2 Brothers. Her sister Yolanda still resides in Scranton Pa. as well as many nieces and nephews. Angela doesn’t look 103 at all and is in great shape except for the pains of arthritis. Angela is often asked “what is your secret” ? Her reply is always the same. “ Work. Hard work. Don’t ever stop working at your job or in your home. Helping others keeps you moving and keeps your feelings alive.” She started working at the young age of 5 when she helped her father deliver coal in the Winter and ice in the Summer in a carriage drawn by her horse Ike. She attended school were the renowned Mother Cabrini was one of her teachers. She worked in the Silk Mills of Scranton. She was a nurse’s aide at a French Hospital. She cooked for the Chilean naval officers when they docked in New York and won several awards at F.W. Woolworth before she retired as a Floor Supervisor. She volunteered at P.S. 14 in the Bronx and was a member of the Daughters of Italy in the Bronx. She was a wife and mother to three children. She is predeceased by her husband John. Her son Manuel and daughter Carmelita, both died in 2002. Her daughter Juanita lives in Bronxville with her husband Mark. Their son Louis and girlfriend Alexandra have Niko, a Schitzu who brings much joy to Angela. She is known as Nana to 9 grandchildren… 8 Great Grandchildren. Sadly, Great Grandson Michael died in an automobile accident in 2010. The newest member – 6 month old Matthew made Angela a “ Great, Great Grandma”! Truth is she has been Mom/Nana/Good Friend to everyone who has had the pleasure of coming into her life. People gravitate to her and her vivacious personality and plethora of knowledge. She can mesmerize you with her energy and passion. When New Year’s rolls around you will find her having a cold beer, talking and laughing with some of her grandson Louis’s friends… Angela’s great cooking skills brought many people to her dinner table, any time, day or night. No one could take leftovers and turn them into a gourmet meal like Angela. She taught herself how to sew beautiful clothes with her own patterns. Her finished products, beautifully lined and tailored, were impeccable. Crocheting was truly her claim to fame from dresser doilies to coats, hats and scarves! She is a great storyteller and many a time can be found in the lobby of her building sharing her past experiences with neighbors. People are always intrigued in hearing about how life was when she was a younger woman. Besides hard work, music and dancing were always a part of her life. Her favorite song is, “You are My Sunshine”. She and her husband John could clear any dance floor when he spun her around to a Tango, Rumba or Waltz. Saturdays in her earlier years were sometimes spent dancing at The Waldorf Astoria Ballroom or just dancing at home with family and friends. Her birthday celebration was held at the Bistro Z Restaurant in Tarrytown where everyone enjoyed sharing stories and giggles. Angela was dressed in purple slacks with an ivory/paisley lace shirt topped with a lavender lace jacket. She wore purple orchids with white roses on her wristlet corsage. Definitely wearing her beads and must have on earrings. Her most important accessory… her big broad smile!!
