Lorraine Marie Slingerland (nee Cobosco) beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at the age of 84. She was born November 9, 1933 in Glen Lyon, PA, to Michael and Emma Cobosco, and she had two siblings – Constance and Michael, all of whom are previously deceased. She graduated from Penn State University in 1955 with a degree in Fine Arts, and she spent decades rooting for her beloved Nittany Lions. After graduation she went to work for William Pahlmann Associates in New York City where she met Richard Slingerland Sr., Architect, and they married in 1961. Lorraine’s strong Catholic faith was evident in everything that she did. As an artist, Lorraine was creative and a strong supporter of the arts and education. She was an active volunteer and worked in the Yonkers Public Schools, volunteered at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School as well as being a catechist at Saint Joseph’s Church. During her entire life she held an enduring love of animals which she shared with her dogs and many cats, as well as birds and wildlife. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband and her loving children, Mary of Newtown, CT, Richard Jr. and his wife Amy of Ossining, NY, Catherine Chomiak and her husband Peter of Ridgefield, CT and Christina of Yonkers, NY and three grandchildren, Teddy and Ella Chomiak of Ridgefield, CT and Isabel Slingerland of Ossining, NY.Calling hours at The Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home at 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY, from the hours of 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018. Funeral will be held at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 15 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 9:45am, with interment at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers donations to Green Chimneys, 400 Doansburg Rd., Box 719, Brewster, NY 10509-0719 are welcomed in Lorraine’s memory.

I was a younger kid – and Lorraine was an exotic woman who came home from New York now and then and we all got to visit when she was home. I remember when she and Richard got engaged.
