John Sciortino died surrounded by his family and friends at the age of 70, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geri; his daughters, Danielle and Nicole; his grandchildren, Addison, Elena, and Nikolas; his sons-in-laws, Sean and Jay; and his two brothers, Joe and Leo, and their families.
John was born in Corleone, Sicily, to Lucia and Angelo Sciortino. He came to the United States when he was six years old, and after moving around, the family eventually settled in New York. He grew up as an immigrant boy in multicultural neighborhoods, surrounded by friends from all different backgrounds. He was mischievous and loved having a good time. From a young age, he was hardworking and resourceful, always finding ways to earn money for the things he loved, especially his first stereo and albums. He loved music and his friends, and many of those early friendships lasted throughout his life.
John began his career at Bell Laboratories as a technician and went on to become an electrical engineer, earning the position through merit. One of his most important projects was developing a phone system that took him around the world. He traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and China, teaching others how to implement and use the system.
He married Geri in 1983 after meeting her at a Corleone dinner dance on a blind date. They connected instantly and were engaged just four months later. They settled in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx and raised their two daughters.
After commuting for 17 years from Whippany, New Jersey, to the Bronx, John decided to pursue his dream of being his own boss. With his engineering background and Geri’s administrative skills, they founded G&J Graphics, Inc., later known as the Bronx Design Group. What began as a home-based business in 1991 grew quickly, eventually expanding into a commercial property they purchased.
John was proud not only of what they built, but of the opportunity to give back. Over more than 35 years, they formed lasting relationships with employees and customers, while supporting countless nonprofits, churches, and schools. The business continues today under the leadership of their daughter Danielle and her husband.
Geri and John eventually settled in Crestwood and later retired to their dream home in Jamesport, Long Island. They traveled the world, including a memorable trip to India, where John loved to brag that he played elephant polo. They especially enjoyed their time with their grandchildren, family, and close friends.
John was also the person people turned to when something needed to be fixed, built, or figured out. He seemed to know how to do just about everything, and if he didn’t, he would find a way. He was always willing to lend a hand, helping family and friends with countless home improvement projects over the years.
John had many passions. He loved to ski, play golf, garden, and take photographs, but music was his greatest passion. He had an extensive collection spanning every genre and loved sharing songs and artists with others. His passions brought people together and became part of the memories so many people have of him.
John was proud of the life he and Geri built together. He loved his family and friends, worked hard, built a successful business, traveled, pursued his passions, and made lasting memories. Most of all, he was grateful for the life he had and at peace knowing that the people he loved were taken care of and that he had lived his life to the fullest.
Calling Hours will be held between the hours of 3 to 7pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at The Fred H. McGrath Funeral Home, Bronxville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 10 am at Annunciation Church, Crestwood, NY.

August 13, 2026 at 11:41 amWe are so fortunate to have John touched our lives! We will always remember him as a wonderful, authentic man who lit up every room with his genuine warmth, love of life and infectious smile. His deep affection and admiration for Geri was a joy to see, and epitomized the very definition of true love. His pride and dedication to Danielle and Nicole were undeniable and unending and they were the source of great happiness in his life. The blessings of his grandchildren further enriched his life, filled his heart with light and made his life a little sweeter.
John and Geri welcomed us to their home with royal treatment, delicious food and many laughs. We will always cherish the small moments with John, sharing a little tequila, whisky or vodka, along with engaging and fascinating conversation.
Geri, Danielle and Nicole, it is with sincere sorrow for your loss of a great husband and father we offer our condolences!
