Deacon Robert Schimpf, passed away on December 25, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Robert (Bob) was the beloved son of the late Mary (Riordan) and Frank Schimpf. Bob is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 56 years, his loving daughter, Liz (Mike) Seccuro and his two grandchildren, Ava and Leo. Bob is also survived his loving  brother, Judge William, his wife Jane and nephew Tom; his sister’s-in-Law, Pat, Peggy and Maureen and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was born on April 4, 1937 in the Inwood section of Manhattan. In 1943, the family moved to the Highbridge section of Bronx, where Bob attended Sacred Heart School and Parish. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bob enlisted in the New York State National Guard and served 8 years with the 165th infantry “The fighting 69th Regiment”. Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Marie Sullivanon September 17th 1960 at St. Barnabas Church. Bob worked for Webb and Knapp,  Home Insurance and in 1959, he began work for the Fifth Ave. Coach Company, serving as a driver, dispatcher, instructor and supervisor. Bob received advance accident training from Northwestern University, University of Florida and Penn State University. Bob retired from the MTA in 1998 after 38 years of dedicated service. Bob was longtime member of the Larchmont Shore Club and a member of the American Legion Post # 122. He also was an avid fan of the Yankees and The New York Giants. In September of 1994, Bob was admitted to St. Joseph’s Seminary to study for the Permanent Diaconate and was ordained by Cardinal John O’Connor on June 6, 1998.   Bob served as a Deacon in the Church of Sts. Peter & Paul , in Mt. Vernon and for the last 10 years at the Church of St. Joseph in Bronxville. Visiting hours will be at held between the hours of 3 to 6 pm, Thursday, December 29 at the Fred H. McGrath & Son, Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St., Bronxville, and 3 to 6 pm, Friday, December 30, at the Church of St. Joseph, 15 Cedar St, Bronxville.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Church of St. Joseph on Saturday, December 31 at 9:45 am. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. Donations can be made to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or the Church of St. Joseph
