Scanlon, Daniel J February 6, 1945 - January 9, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel J. Scanlon on January 9, 2025.  He was 79 years old.

Dan was born to parents John and Bertha in Rome, NY, in 1945.  Although born in NY, Dan was a New Englander through and through.  He grew up on Chester Street in Lowell, Massachusetts with brothers John and Gerry and sisters Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Ann.  After high school, Dan attended the Massachusetts Maritime Marine Academy where he studied electrical engineering.

After college, Dan would meet his wife, Anne Lavelle at an Irish dance hall in Manhattan, NY.  The two would marry shortly thereafter and create a union that would last 57 years and include three children, sons Danny, John, and Brian.

A devout Red Sox fan, Dan somehow managed to share a household with four Yankees fans.  Despite his personal fandom, Dan took his sons to countless Yankees games growing up.  His sacrifice would be rewarded year later, as he was able to see his own beloved Red Sox team win multiple world series.

Besides baseball, Dan enjoyed fishing, hanging at the pool with family, watching horse racing, listening to Irish music, and taking summer trips to Cape Cod and Hampton Beach, NH.  He also enjoyed trips to Ireland to visit his wife’s home in Achill Island, County Mayo as well as his own grandmother’s home in Lahinch, County Clare.

Professionally, Dan worked as an engineer for Brooklyn Union Gas for more than 25 years.  After retiring, we worked as a doorman on Park Avenue in NYC.

Dan was a quiet man with an exceptionally quick wit.  His jokes were usually well-timed and always good natured.  He now joins his parents and brothers John and Gerry with the Lord.  He is survived by his wife Anne; sons Danny, John and his wife Donna, and Brian; and grandchildren Daniel, Nina, Jenna, Kelli, Jack, Liam, Grace, and Owen; and sisters Mary Margaret and Elizabeth.

He was a good man and will be missed.

In honor of Dan’s battle with Alzheimer’s and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
