She was born to Kathryn Frances McTigue Foley and Max Henry Foley in Far Rockaway, NY on October 3, 1936. She was the youngest of 4 children (Mary Ada, John, Frank). She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart on 91st Street and Manhattanville College.
She was married in 1958 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and raised her family in Bronxville, NY where she was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. She had a home in Sea Island, Georgia and most recently lived in St. Simons Island, GA.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Dignan Rizzo, MD and her infant son, Robert Gerard. Another son was stillborn.
She is survived by her 6 children, Thomas (Margaret), Peter (Charlotte), James (Patricia), Kathryn (J.L. English), William (Elisa) and Francis, 24 grandchildren (Thomas (Jamie), Katherine Jean (Justin Green), Elizabeth (Andrew Bechtold), Carolyn (Max McKinley), Meredith, Hilary (James), Alex (Megan), Matthew, Madeleine, Abigail, Peter, Luke, Jean Kathryn, Leo, Nancy, Michael, Lucy, William, John, Sara, Daniel, Timothy (Madison), Grace, Clare) and 2 great-grandchildren (Margaux Green and Robert Bechtold). In addition, she is mourned by numerous nieces and nephews and their children as well as a large extended family of friends welcomed into her home.
They all loved their Grammie and have fond memories of visiting in Sea Island, creating sweets and enjoying breakfasts together.
She was proud of them and loved watching them grow into wonderful people. She could relate their accomplishments and kept track of their comings and goings, birthdays and life events.
Her faith was very important to her and she was pleased (and shocked) at the election of an American-born Pope.
A mass of Christian Burial will occur on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville, NY at 9:45am
In lieu of flowers please donate to EWTN, Tunnel 2 Tower Foundation or Wounded Warrior Foundation.
