David W. Purdy Sr.

September 14, 1954 – March 1, 2026

David W. Purdy Sr., 71, passed away on the evening of March 1, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born on September 14, 1954, in Yonkers, New York, to Allen Purdy Sr. and Geraldine (née Sullivan). David attended St. John the Baptist elementary school and Lincoln High School. He lived a life defined by strength, devotion to family, and quiet generosity.

David married Mary Elizabeth McGrail in 1982 in Yonkers, N.Y. at St. Eugene’s Church. He was a loving father to his three children: David Jr., Heather, and Robert.

David was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He carried himself with integrity and worked hard throughout his life to provide for those he loved. He started his career working for the family business, Sullivan & Son. He left the family business to start a concrete company, Action Ready Mix, in Mount Vernon, N.Y. in the late 1990s.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and spent his free time at the Buck Mountain Hunting Club in the Catskills. This club played a large role in his childhood and he later brought his sons and grandson there to experience and pass on those same memories (The Grand Pooba).

David is survived by his loving family, including his wife Mary (née McGrail), children David Jr., Heather, and Robert, as well as his grandchildren, Amari and David III.  He is also survived by 6 siblings: Kathy (Jeff) Michalak, Mary (Brendan) Browne, Kevin Purdy, and Helen (John) DiNoia, all of Yonkers, James (Barbara) Purdy of Stormville; and George (Diane) Purdy of Yorktown Heights, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Geraldine (née Sullivan) and Allan Purdy Sr., and his older brother Allen Purdy Jr.
