Murphy, Amy McKay March 3, 1928 - January 20, 2020

Amy McKay Murphy of Yonkers, NY and Groton Long Point CT, died peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the age of 91. Amy was born in New York City on March 3, 1928, the daughter of the late Francis and Isabel (Shields) McKay. She was raised in Rutherford NJ, and graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1949.  She married “the boy next door,” John P. Murphy, in October of 1953 and they settled in Crestwood, where they raised their six children. While her children were growing up, Amy was active in the Annunciation Parish and the Bronxville Women’s Club, where she served as the editor and advertising manager of “The Villager” magazine for many years.  She enjoyed summers in Groton Long Point, CT where she played tennis and loved to sit on the beach for cocktails on Wednesday nights to watch the sailboat races with her friends. In later years, she was active with the Bronxville Seniors, playing bridge at the Reformed Church and attending numerous concerts and programs. She also delighted in her grandchildren, and loved spending time with them whenever she could. She is survived by her five sons, John (Elizabeth) of Eastchester, Brian (Laura) of Bronxville, Paul (Marilyn) of Manhasset, Francis of Greenwich CT, and James of Brooksville FL. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, and their daughter Eileen. She also leaves 11 grandchildren John, Erin, Mollie (Gavin), Matt (Gretchen), William (Lindsey), Stephen, Anne, Dennis, Gavin, Annie, and Robert and 1 great grandson, Eli. Calling Hours at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville between the hours of 4 to 7pm Friday. Mass of Christian Burial Annunciation Church, Crestwood on Saturday, January 25 at 10am.

    What a beautiful picture of Aunt Amy. I never knew that her parents names were Francis and Isabel, names that show up in the Murphys and McBrides.
    She lived a good long life. May she rest in peace in her everlasting one.

    You Murphy’s know how much time and how many shenanigans your mother and I shared together. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was so funny and we couldn’t have had a better time together. Laughter was our bond.
