William Pierce Munro died quietly on May 26, 2015, in the hospital where he was born on April 17, 1922, near his home in Bronxville, NY. Beloved husband of 62 years to the late Betty Munro, loving father of Constance Munro Kamerman (Jack) and the late Leslie, grandfather to Anne, David, and William and Noelle; uncle to Deb, Bruce, and David; brother-in-law to Marjorie and Gordon. After graduating from Colgate University in 1943 he went on to serve his country in WWII, where he was a veteran of the Normandy Invasion, defense of Europe, and liberation of concentration camps. He was a faithful friend to many who admired his intellect, integrity, humor, loyalty, kindness, and generosity. As an honest, successful, and trusted businessman, he embodied the American work ethic and personified the American dream throughout his years at Sylvania, CBS International, and Sylvan Ginsbury, Ltd. Bill loved his family, his cats, his lifelong friends Bob and Joe, the Yankees and the NY Giants, Glenn Miller, the Times crossword, a good tennis game and a fine single malt Scotch. He was proud of his Scottish heritage, his military service, his business career, his home and family, and of having been at Yankee Stadium for Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series. He was grateful to Yvonne and Mona for their devoted nursing of both himself and his late wife, Betty, and sad to have been preceded in death by Betty, Leslie, and Gordon. He is mourned by everyone who knew him.
