John Q. McQuillan, 89, died Thursday, January 29, 2015 following a brief illness.He leaves his siblings, Margaret Mary McQuillan and Thomas A. McQuillan (Margaret A.); his nieces and nephews, Carl J. Pernicone, Peter J. Pernicone, Thomas H. McQuillan, Elizabeth A. McQuillan, Joanne M. Blankenship; his cousin, William H. McQuillan and many close friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Isabella M. Pernicone. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, the son of John A. and Margaret L. (Higgins) McQuillan, John was a longtime resident of Crestwood, NY and Newtown, CT.  Following his graduation from Regis High School in 1943, John enlisted in the United States Army, and served in the 280th Engineer Combat Battalion during WWII.  He served in combat in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns, most notably in the Battle of the Bulge before his Honorable Discharge in 1946.  After serving with the U.S. Army, he attended Columbia University, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1959, he received his Juris Doctorate from Fordham Law School.  Mr. McQuillan was a Partner at Kenyon & Kenyon practicing as a patent, trademark and copyright attorney for many years.  Before practicing law he held engineering positions at Curtiss-Wright Corporation and Sperry Rand.  He took much pride in his practice of intellectual property law and valued greatly the friends he made during his time in business. Throughout his life, John enjoyed travel, working on his vintage automobiles and spending time with family and friends at the family home in Newtown. Visitation will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home (Bronxville, NY) on Sunday, February 1st from 1-5 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Church of the Annunciation, Crestwood, NY at 11 am Monday.
