It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Patricia (nee Murphy) McGuinness on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Patricia was 87 years old.
Patricia hailed from Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland, daughter of the late James and Mary (nee Barry) Murphy. She is predeceased by her 4 siblings: Marie (Honan), Stephen, Cathleen (Semark), and John.
Patricia is also predeceased by her first husband, Jack McGuinness, and her second husband, Patrick Hughes – each of whom she was married to for 20 years. Patricia arrived in the United States at the age of 18, initially settling in the Bronx, then marrying Jack and moving to Lynbrook, NY where she raised her four children while volunteering and immersing herself in the school community and Irish organizations, including the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She led an extremely active life in retirement in Galloway, NJ, again volunteering her time and talent, most notably at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
Patricia was a devoted mother to her four children. Survived by John, Deirdre (Brendan) and Brendan (Jennifer). Predeceased by her daughter Mary and son-in-law Patrick. Loving grandmother to Shannon (David), Jack, Aidan, Matthew and Jonathan, and great grandmother to Rían. She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews.
Patricia will be remembered as someone who brought tireless energy and joy to everyone she met and everything she did – from her love of Irish song and dance to her deep devotion to her family. Her spirit will live on in the music she loved, the dances she danced, and the family she cherished with every ounce of her tireless heart.
Viewing will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY 10708. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:45 A.M in St. Joseph’s Church, 15 Cedar Street, Bronxville, NY 10478.
