Myrtle Rodgers McGrath passed away peacefully in Columbus, Ohio on November 21, 2016. She is survived by her four daughters, Beth (Chad), Patty, (Joel), Terry (Jim) and Meg (Steve) and seven grandchildren. Myrtle was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Edward Joseph McGrath. Together they shared many happy years raising their family in Chappaqua, New York. Myrtle was born January 15th, 1930, and was raised in Rye, New York. She graduated with distinction from Marymount College and later received a master’s degree in Christian studies from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, New York. Myrtle’s professional and personal pursuits reflected her interests in business, education, and social causes. She began her career at NBC Studios in New York and later went on to teach at The School of the Holy Child. Always mindful of social justice issues related to youth, Myrtle co-founded the Children’s Center at Bedford Hills Correctional facility, enabling children to visit their mothers. In retirement, Myrtle and Ed founded Hardscrabble Antiques, a business they enjoyed, specializing in Chinese export porcelain. Myrtle will be missed by family and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial, St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville on Wednesday, November 30 at 9:45am.
