Elizabeth M. McAnaney, November 17, 1917 to May 31, 2016, of Suffield, CT and Yonkers, NY. Born in Mount Vernon, NY, during World War I, youngest of three children of Christian Mackenthun and Bessie (Morriss) Mackenthun, she was educated in Mount Vernon. She attended the College of Mount St. Vincent, Riverdale, NY, from which she graduated in 1939 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She followed her graduation from college with a position teaching mathematics. During World War II, she was employed by Standard Vacuum, a predecessor to ExxonMobil, as an oil tanker dispatcher, scheduling the movement of vital oil supplies around the world. During her time at Standard Vacuum, she met and married the love of her life, Joseph E. McAnaney, in 1949. She is survived by their children and grandchildren: son, Edward McAnaney of Suffield, CT, his wife Deborah and their children Meghan, Joseph, Erin and Colleen and daughter, Elizabeth Altonji of Basking Ridge, NJ, her husband Gerard and their children Lauren, Kevin, Emma and Sarah. As a woman of faith, Elizabeth (Betty) was very involved in the work of her parish, Church of the Annunciation in Crestwood, NY, as a member of the Ladies of Charity, the Bandage Group (serving cancer patients) and Eucharistic Ministry (well into her 90s). She was a daily communicant and, with her husband, a participant in Eucharistic Adoration. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. We shall miss our wonderful mother, mother-in-law and grandmother more than words can say. We wish to thank the owner and staff of Suffield By The River/River’s Watch for the wonderful care they gave to Betty. Her family will receive friends Friday, June 3 from 6-8 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, CT and again on Sunday, June 5, from 4-7 PM at Fred H.
