Kevin Lyons, Atlanta, GA, formerly of the Bronx, New York, passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2024. Kevin was born on February 11, 1965 to Patrick “Paddy” and Rose Lyons in New York City. He was the much loved husband of Kathi, who he spent 34 happy years with; devoted father of Callan (Catherine), Kyle, and Conor; and most recently, the loving grandfather (“Big Kev”) to Emerson. Kevin is predeceased by his father, Paddy; brother, Tommy (Jeannie); mother-in-law, Katie McHale; and father-in-law, Gene McHale. Kevin is survived by many loving family members in New York, Ireland and England.
Kevin dedicated his life to service. In 1996, he began his life’s calling as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Throughout his FBI career, Kevin worked in various capacities at the New York field office, Indianapolis field office, Buffalo field office and FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. In 2018, he retired as a Deputy Assistant Director in the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division. After a long and successful career with the FBI, Kevin entered the private sector and worked at Scientific Games in Atlanta, where he held the position of Senior Director of Compliance and Security. Kevin was a natural leader and touched the lives of many throughout his careers.
In his youth, Kevin was a standout basketball player at St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School and Lehman College in the Bronx. In 1987, Kevin was honored to be named the CUNY tournament MVP. In the years since, he made sure nobody would forget he could still hoop! As an avid sports fan, he passed on his love of sports to his children through many years coaching, cheering them on and taking them to collegiate and professional sporting events.
Kevin enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially at the dinner table telling stories and sharing laughs. Some of his favorites were talking about his and Kathi’s childhood in the Bronx, stories from the FBI and his Irish family and heritage. Kevin’s family was everything to him. He was a man of extraordinary integrity, a pillar of strength and was as loyal and dependable as they come.
Kevin will be dearly missed by his wife, children, mother and family. He was so very loved.

November 21, 2024 at 11:13 amDear Kathi, Callan, Kyle & Conor,
Thinking of you all at this very sad time . Thinking of poor Rose too losing her son.. Kevin was a great guy and we have many fond memories of him during our time living in New York. He always had a welcome hug and a friendly smile on his face anytime we met. He was so kind and welcoming to us when we moved to NY. I can’t imagine what a huge void that he is leaving in your beautiful family but I’m sure he will be there by your sides when you need him. He will be watching over all of you and keeping you safe. May his gentle soul rest in peace xxx

November 21, 2024 at 1:09 pmI was so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear loved one, Kevin. I was not fortunate enough to have spent some time with him. At this time, you and your family need comfort, which I always find from the Scriptures. One in particular is Revelation 21:4: “And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Soon God will take away the pain and sting of death. No more will we have to suffer with the losing our loved ones in death. The Bible promises that, and we can believe what God has promised. May this Scripture bring comfort and hope to and your family in the coming days and weeks. God be with you.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Over these past 6 years, I have enjoyed working with him and becoming his friend. He was a man with a huge heart and one who truly loved his family. He talked about you all every time we spoke, which was pretty often. He never missed an opportunity to show new updated pictures of Emerson. She was the apple of his eye. He has left us with many memories. I wish you peace and love during this difficult time. He was one in a million.

November 22, 2024 at 6:05 pmI was in Quantico class 96-22 with Kevin and also assigned to the NYO office from ‘97-‘03. Kevin always exuded warmth with his ever-present smile. His skills and abilities were omnipresent as he rose through the FBI ranks. One of our 96-22 classmates had the foresight to create a 96-22 email group when we all started to retire. I want to assure the family that Kevin’s obituary has been shared with the group with an outpouring of support and sadness. As mentioned above, thank you for streaming the funeral service. I’ll be watching and likely shedding a few more tears. 🙏 🥲

November 23, 2024 at 8:15 pmI first met Kevin when I started my career at the FBI in 2008 Indianapolis, coming from the US Postal Inspection Service, I was a small fish in a rather huge pond. He was my supervisor from 2008 until he left for D.C. in 2015. He was a wonderful supervisor and teacher, he was a very patient man never making me feel small. Over the years our relationship turned to a friendship that carried over when both he and I retired. I last heard from him in August, when I contacted him and whished him a happy six (6) year anniversary with Scientific Games. His response back was heartfelt as always with Kevin telling me what a great friend I was to him and telling me to be safe.
Kevin, you will be missed, may you rest in peace my friend.

November 26, 2024 at 11:48 amDear Kathi, Callan, Kyle & Conor,
I am so sorry for your loss. I also retired from the FBI but did not know Kevin until he started working for Scientific Games in Atlanta in 2018. We immediately became close friends, and I cannot count on one hand how many lunches we missed in the two-year period we worked together. In fact, when I left Scientific Games he was there offering his help when I was packing my personal belongings because we had become so close. During our lunches together we spoke about family and obviously our time in the FBI. He spoke about everyone in the family and explained what a close relationship he had and how much he loved each and every one of you. He also spoke about visiting home in “The Bronx,” the only place in the USA that starts with a “The,” as he informed me with his joyful laughter. He explained how his extended family in The Bronx came together during the holidays and how much he missed living there. We spoke about the similarities between the Irish and Mexicans and we laughed about it. We continued to have lunches after I left the company and we called each other periodically, as close friends. I have lost family members and experienced sorrow; likewise, it hurts me deep to lose Kevin Lyons in this life, but he remains a friend in my heart forever. God bless you and please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss.

November 26, 2024 at 6:18 pmSo sorry to hear about Kevin’s passing. We played a lot of basketball together in Da Bronx. Kevin was a little quiet around some of the boys but his jump shot spoke very loudly. His soft touch was lethal any where on the court. We were so proud of you, Kevin when you went onto the FBI (hoping you would never open a case on any of us – LOL)
May you rest in peace Big Kev, and my sincere condolences to your family.
God bless you … Dan Mulvey

November 28, 2024 at 6:42 pmDear Rosie, Kathi, Callan, Kyle and Conor, I was shocked to hear of Kevin’s passing at such a young age.
My sincere sympathy to you all on the loss of Kevin, a son, father, brother and a grandad. Kevin and his younger brother Tommy first entered my life about 1974/75 on their visit to Cloonturk, Dromod, Ireland to stay with their Granny and Uncle for a few weeks of their summer holidays. In those halcyon days of youth, they were our “Hardy boys” with their flashy sneakers and accent, coming from this land that we only knew from movies and TV. We got up to all sorts of fun things that 10 year old do in a rural setting, climbing trees, fishing, planning on building a raft, football, wonderful memories of two great human beings. Both are gone too soon. I know Kevins passing will leave a void in your lives but his legacy lives on in you, his sons. This should be a great support and strength to you in your grieving. To you Kathi, his rock and confidant for all the wonderful years of love you have spent together, you have created memories that time can never tarnish. Cherish them all as you navigate a new lidmfe without ” Big Kev” To you Rosie, all my love at this difficult time for you. You should be soo proud of the wonderful son that you raised in Kevin, as the priest rightly said, “A man of integrity” in a world so lacking in this virtue. May his soul rest in peace, joining his Dad Paddy and brother Tommy in Paradise. Ar dheis De to raibh a hanam usual dhilis. Take care, all my love.
