Michael Lydon, of Bronxville New York, raised in Shanvallycahil, County Mayo, Ireland passed away peacefully on October 19th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Michael lived a life defined by kindness and warmth, joy and strength. He was known for his big heart and even bigger smile, qualities that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He lit up any room he entered with his contagious laughter, which was heard often and shared with many.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was the beloved husband of Philomena. Loving father of Brendan (Maureen), Noreen, Michael (Linda), Linda and Susan. Cherished grandfather of Kevin, Christopher (Rebecca), Makayla, Noreen, Molly and Jaclyn and great-grandfather to Nathaniel. Adored brother of Beatrice, Peggy, Padraig, Peter, predeceased by Mary, John, Martin and Sarah. Beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends & loved ones Wednesday, 4-8 pm at the Fred H McGrath & Son Funeral Home, 20 Cedar St. Bronxville, NY. The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, 9:45 am, at Saint Joseph’s Church Bronxville, NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Blood Cancer United (https://bloodcancerunited.org/).

I remember well his kindness and warmth during his many visits to our home in Dromahair over the years. He was a true gentleman and always so easy to talk to. Mike lived a long and full life, and his pride in his Irish heritage, along with his deep love for his family, were always clear. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

My father Michael was a contemporary of Mr. Lydon, who he insisted calling Charlie as two Mikes could not work in the same bar. My father Michael had asked Mr. Lydon to come for an “interview” in Lallys Bar in The Bronx in the late 60s / early 70s. My father asked Mr. Lydon to count out the cash drawer to check his skills; Mr. Lydon did the same in fluent Irish and immediately got the job and the two Mayomen became lifelong friends. My father held Mr. Lydon in high esteem. They are both buried in Gate of Heaven and are no doubt sharing a drink, a laugh, and a story in their beloved native tongue.
