Marijane Kearney passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Yonkers, New York. She was born to Harry and Grace Lambert in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx on January 15, 1932. She was predeceased by her brother, Ken Lambert; her sister, Grace Lambert Kearney; and her husband, Edward B. Kearney.
She is survived by her five children: Sheila Kearney Cordtz (Jeffrey), Maureen Claire, Crysta Jane (Jeri), Edward B. (Michelle), and Michael G. (Heather). She also leaves behind her brother Harry (Ann),10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
A devout Catholic, Jane was an alumna of St. Barnabas Elementary and High School in the Bronx. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle, where she also earned her Masters degree. She loved school, excelled academically and developed a lifelong love affair with literature. She began her career with the New York City Board of Education, serving as a speech teacher. Jane took a lengthy hiatus from teaching with the arrival of her first child, Sheila, but returned to the classroom in 1977. It was a tumultuous time in NYC, but Jane persevered and continued to work until she retired as a supervisor of speech in 2001.
Retirement brought more opportunities to play bridge, spend time with family and friends and many social activities through the Bronxville Women’s Club, St. Joseph’s Arts and Leisure group and her many friends.
For 65 years, Jane was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, where she received the Gabriel Award for her extensive volunteer efforts in both the school and church. In her later years, she was a founding member of the Martha and Mary group and spearheaded the “For the Troops” drive that collected various items for our troops serving overseas. She was also a lifelong member and past president of the Strathmore Association in the neighborhood where she raised her children.
A dedicated animal advocate, Jane fostered many shelter dogs and cats throughout her life. Above all, Marijane was known for her fabulous sense of humor. A favorite family memento is a large sign hanging in her kitchen that reads, “When I Die The Cat Gets Everything.” We hope this isn’t true.
The family will receive friends at Fred H McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville on Friday, May 15th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16th, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Scarsdale. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Best Friends Animal Society in Marijane’s honor.

May 16, 2026 at 5:25 pmHello Kearney’s,
I love the photo of your Mother, and see each of you right there. Your Mom was so warm, so very accomplished, and funny…of course! Sweet memories of that growing-up time. Eileen shared your wonderful eulogy, Crysta, and it brought me right back. I remember Jane in that monster cast!
Please take comfort in that…she is in excellent company, and there is a lot of love and laughter with her presence. Cheers to that!
Fondly,
Mary Beth SWEENEY George
